Electrophysiology lab

1-Synaptic plasticity is usually studied by using electrophysiological techniques. By in vitro field potential recording, we enable to study synaptic plasticity in the hippocampal slices.

The first goal of lab is to evaluate the response of CA1, dentate gyrus and pyramidal neurons to Schaffer collateral and perforant path stimulation in the hippocampal slice and try to investigate the mechanisms involved in relationship between learning and memory and epilepsy.

2- Kindling is an experimental animal model of epilepsy. In this model, the repeated application of electrical stimuli induces progressive seizure activity, which culminates in tonic–colonic convulsions.

 

Other general goal of lab is to understand the kindling-induced changes in synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity. We are particularly interested to know the effect of deep brain stimulation on modulation of these changes. We have also focused on kindling induced impairments in learning and memory, and on the probable preventing effect of deep brain stimulation on these impairments.
